Sydney Blue Sox roll the Cavalry

The Sydney Blue Sox moved to 5-3 on the season after taking three of four games from the Canberra Cavalry in Canberra over the weekend. So what did we learn?

 

  • Trent Oeltjen and David Kandilas are the best one-two punch in the ABL as things currently stand.
  • Brian Grening was not good enough. Will need to adjust fast if the Cavalry are going to get the pitcher they’ve formally had.
  • The Sydney Blue Sox were a long way from full strength, with many younger names currently representing Australia at the Under 21 Baseball World Cup.
  • Greg Kent umpiring is an issue which is old and tired, but also not going anyway.
  • The Cavalry are going to need to run this season if they are to have success. 0-2SB across the four game spread isn’t good enough when facing a high-powered opponent.
  • Tristan Crawford has no trouble working  the strike zone (7K’s in 5.1IP), but needs to restrict the hits he allows (6).
  • Will Swanner could be one of the best imports seen in the league this summer.
  • Jack Murphy is going to need to channel his 2013 Asia Series for if he is to have a big impact in Canberra.
  • Sydney should have swept the series but for the five errors committed in Canberra’s 4-2 victory.
  • Dae-Sung Koo showed his passionate side, but the way he displayed it was what cost him.
