Down 2-1 early on, Mike Crouse hit two homers to lead the Canberra Cavalry to a 5-2 victory over the Adelaide Bite at Narrabundah Ballpark in Canberra, bringing the Cavalry to within one win of first place on the ABL ladder. Alex Jacobs with more.
A Jeremy Barnes RBI in the first inning saw scoring machine Jon Berti hand Canberra the lead, the infielder continuing a rich vein of form for the home side.
The Bite responded in the third inning as Josh Cakebread scored off a Jeremy Cresswell RBI, before Cresswell did the same through a Chris Jacobs RBI.
For the away team that is where the runs ended, despite several late chances.
After hitting two homers last week in a game to claim a win over Adelaide, Crouse was at it again, with his first, a two-run homer in the sixth.
Now in the lead, Canberra continued to push on, Casey Frawley’s sacrifice fly in the seventh allowing Robbie Perkins to score and the Cavalry were up 4-2.
The win was sealed through Crouse’s second homer the following inning giving Canberra the victory they needed, while ensuring Adelaide remains in fifth place.
