VENUE & DATE :: Medibank Icehouse, Melbourne Saturday 17th & 18th of November 2012

LAST TIME :: This is the first meeting for the 2012/2013 season

WHAT’S WHAT ::  It will differently prove to be an interesting game as the Melbourne Ice took one win away from Round 1 while the Brisbane Goannas went down to the Sirens in their season opening games.

Melbourne Ice traveled to Adelaide to take on Adrenaline, which saw the points split.  In Saturday’s game the Adrenaline took the points with a narrow 4-3 win, while on Sunday the Melbourne Ice had an impressive 6-0 shutout victory.

Despite being beaten by the North Star Sirens in both games, the Goannas showed a lot of fight and the 8-4 and 7-4 scorelines are not an exact representation of how close the Round 1 games in Brisbane actually were.

The Melbourne Ice currently hold second position on the AWIHL standings while the Brisbane Goannas are placed fourth.

WHO’S HOT :: Displaying great form for the Melbourne Ice in both of Round 1 games against Adelaide was Frances McPhail who leads the league scoring with 2 goals and 4 assists leaving her with a total of 6 points. Rylie Padjen has also slotted into the team well with 2 goals and 1 assist for the weekend.  Courtney Rae has also had an impressive start to the season with 25 saves plus a shutout against the Adrenaline in Sunday’s game.

For the Goannas, Alternate Captain Melinda White in her second AWIHL season led from the front adding two valuable assists in the first game of the weekend.  With a great start to her career as a Goanna, Michelle Clark-Crumpton added two goals in the season opening game and should prove to a threat to any AWIHL defence.

WE THINK :: With the Goannas keen to show off their new brand of hockey and the Ice looking to continue their solid start to the season with a successful home opener it will be difficult to pick a winner.  Both sides have an impressive line up, however with the home ice advantage I think Melbourne Ice, will just come off with a pair of wins.
