Late yesterday evening the Melbourne Ice announced the naming of their new President in Ms Emma Poynton, Andrew Hewitt with more.
Following on from the end of season announcement that Andy Lamrock will no longer be standing for another term as President of the Melbourne Ice, the current AIHL Champions have named Emma Poynton as his successor.
This decision will come as a surprise to some, when earlier this week outgoing President Lamrock explained to HSN that although the Ice committee had been grooming some potential candidates for the role, they would still be seeking nominations ahead of the December 3 AGM.
That aside, the appointment of Ms Poynton is an inspired one.
Poynton’s professional background lies in Podiatry and comes to the President’s role with extensive experience in sports other than Ice Hockey including Athletics.
Emma’s Athletics career brought success in sprinting events ranging between 100m and 400m however due to a foot injury Poynton was forced to stop at the end of the 2008 season.
Getting steadily busier over the last few years, the hockey life of Ms Poynton has included standing as President for IHV team and brother/sister club to the Melbourne Ice, the Melbourne Ice Wolves. Poynton has been a major part of the growth and popularity of the Ice Wolves showing that she is ready to fill the shoes left by Lamrock.
As well as her off ice involvement, Poynton has been an on ice member of the Ice Wolves Poynton and has recently been named for the second successive season as a member of the Melbourne Ice AWIHL Development Squad.
Everyone at HSN would like to wish Emma all the best throughout her tenure as the President of the Melbourne Ice.
